Yearbook Committee needs pictures for the yearbook.

The only way we can have all of the classes represented in the yearbook is for pictures to be turned in by you! So If you would like to make this the best yearbook ever, turn in your pictures.

Please burn pictures onto a cd, mark the cd with your name and phone number; grade, teacher and the event or events on the cd.

PLEASE make sure that you don’t rename each picture with a long title. The website will not take any labels more than 22 characters.

WE need pictures now!

WE will take pictures up until February 17th, however, it’s better to turn in pictures now because those are the ones we will use first. You can turn in pictures for any events that are coming up on a separate disk, for example Valentine’s Day.

The disk should be placed in the yearbook box in the media center. It is located on the book shelf in front of parent resource door. It is a silver magazine holder with blue ribbon and labeled. Please don’t place in PTSA box.

A reminder yearbooks are still available for purchase. The cost is $35 and this includes personalized cameo photo on the front. All orders must be in by March 8, 2012. If you are unsure whether or not you have ordered a yearbook you can email Shannon Hardy; shannonhardy1@bellsouth.net.

Letters for the Troops

The students at Still are writing letters to the troops overseas as part of “The Bert Show’s Big Thank You”.

The Bert Show is far from reaching their goal of 400,000 letters.

The staff at Still would like to encourage all our Still parents to write letters and get everyone they know to do the same. We are collecting the letters here at Still or they can also be dropped off at any Taco Mac location.

The deadline to have them in is Friday, October 28th.

CONFERENCE WEEK

“FILL THE BASKET”

October 24 – 28th

The Still PTSA is providing snack baskets to each Homeroom Teacher that is conducting conferences during Conference Week. It is our desire to support our teachers and make the week a little easier by having snacks on hand during the shortened school schedule.

During Conference Week, we are asking each student to please bring any of the following items to help “Fill the Basket” for their teacher. Suggested items include:

Bananas, Apples, Oranges , Pears

Granola or Snack Bars

Bottled Water

We hope that each student will participate in “Fill the Basket” and support our wonderful teachers. Please bring all items on Monday and Tuesday of Conference Week so that our teachers may enjoy their baskets for the entire week.

As a part of our Veteran’s Day celebration we will display Veteran’s pictures on a Wall of Honor located outside Still’s Media Center. So, if you would like to send a picture of your Veteran(s), please complete the following information and follow the instructions below.

Thursday, October 20th, is Student Preview Day at the Scholastic Book Fair in the media center. During the school day students may pick up a wish list form and fill out book titles they may be interested in purchasing when the Fair opens on Friday.

On Friday morning, October 21st at 7:15 AM the Book Fair officially opens for student purchases. Proceeds from the Fair go to benefit Still’s Media Center. Parents and grandparents may shop later or when they come in for their teacher conference from 12:30-6:00 PM Friday, and then again Monday-Thursday. Grandparents are encouraged to shop with their students every day between 5:00-6:00 PM during our Grand Event hours. During this time they can enjoy a special snack made just for them.

Additionally, in keeping with the Fair’s theme, “To the Book Fair and Beyond- Reading is Out of this World,“ classes are encouraged to join in Friday’s Alien Pumpkin Decorating Contest by decorating a class pumpkin to look like an alien or other space related theme. The pumpkins will then be put on display in the Media Center during the Book Fair and on Thursday the winning class will be announced on the morning news. The winning class will also receive prizes and an inflatable alien for their classroom (kind of like the Chick-Fil-A cow).

On Thursday, October 27th, the last day of our Book Fair, we are getting into the Halloween spirit by encouraging students to participate in Alien Dress Up Day. Any student, or staff, who dresses up like an Alien will receive a Star Burst candy at the Book Fair.

And lastly, we are asking that Book Fair customers donate their spare change to the One for Books program to buy books for Still students in need. Donation boxes are located in the office and at the Fair.

We look forward to seeing everybody and having a really fun time while promoting reading and literacy!

Drink Pouch Fundraiser

Still Students Begin Fundraiser

What could be better than helping the environment and your school at the same time? Well, that’s exactly what some fifth grade students at Still Elementary are doing. Any type of drink pouch (Capri Sun, Kool Aid, etc.) earns the school two cents. These pouches must be completely empty and strawless in order to send them to Terracycle (the company we send the drink pouches to). Every day, fifth graders, Abbey Crossman, Grace Walker, and Katie Tucker, roll the drink pouch bin to the front of the school. This is in case students want to bring pouches from home and drop them off in the morning. At 10:30, they roll the bin into the cafeteria for lunch. So far, the Still Pouch Brigade has earned $10.00 and hopes to raise hundreds more throughout the rest of the year.

PTSA Bylaws

Dear Still Elementary PTSA members,

This memo is posted to notify PTSA members of the Still Elementary PTSA Board of Director’s intention to change the Bylaws to reflect an increase in PTSA membership dues starting with the school year 2012-2013, from $5.00 to $6.00.

This change is necessary due to the increase in GA State and National PTA Membership dues.

The amendment to change the Bylaws will be voted on at the General PTSA meeting on November 3, 2011.

Still Book Fair

Still Elementary School’s Scholastic Book Fair will be held during most of Parent -Teacher Conference week. The Book Fair is held in the media center and will be set up the Thursday before Conference week to allow students and teachers to preview the Fair and make their wish lists. Then on Friday, October 21st we will open for sales and remain open through Thursday, October 27th. We will have several convenient shopping hours. Early risers and students can shop from 7:15 AM to 8:15 AM. While parents attending their teacher conferences can stop by before or after to shop from 12:30 PM to 6:00 PM each day. The profits from our Book Fair directly benefit Still’s Media Center.
